Gay Pride 2011

2 Jun

This year I will be attending Both LA and San Francisco‘s Gay Pride events. I found this video online from a while back, when Prop. 8, (the ballot that eliminates the freedom to marry for same-sex couples) was deemed unconstitutional and was overturned.

Before you watch the video I want to be clear: Prop. 8 is still in existence, and same-sex couples currently are unable to marry in the state of California. A lawsuit before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court may change that! The campaign to overturn Prop 8 is still the highest-funded campaign on any state ballot – ever! And has surpassed every national campaign as well (aside from presidential).

Interim Executive Director Jim Carroll of Equality California (EQCA) says, “Every day that Prop. 8 is still in effect, loving same-sex couples and their families are denied the same freedoms that other couples and families enjoy. We can’t wait to overturn this discriminatory measure. We have to act now to build support for full equality.”

Clearly, this is a cause many of us believe in! As Pride rolls around, I urge you to donate what you can to EQCA. You can also show your support by attending and open photo-shoot for the NOH8 campaign on Saturday June 11th, in Los Angeles!
