A Child’s Definition of LOVE

11 Jul

A group of 4 to 8 year-olds were asked the question, “What does love mean?” Below are their answers. Some of them are pretty thoughtful, if you know a kid (or have one) you should totally ask them what THEY think love is!

“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.” Rebecca- age 8

“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.” Billy – age 4

“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.” Karl – age 5

“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.” Chrissy – age 6

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.” Terri – age 4

“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.” Danny – age 7

“Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss” Emily – age 8

“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.” Chris – age 7

“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.” Mary Ann – age 4

“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” (LOVE this one!) Karen – age 7

*PS, it was SUPER hard to find an innocent photo of two little girls or two little boys kissing, but a girl and a boy – no prob. Same-sex childhood kisses are just as innocent and adorable in my opinion :)! Just a little something for your brain to chew on this morning…

There may be a reason it was so hard to find a photo of same sex children kissing..I do not ever remember seeing two girls kiss or two boys kiss on the lips untill i was in about 9th grade.Maybe its because kids repeat what they see in their parents and people around them.I did not have same sex desires so i wouldn’t know.. how ever i do have a cousin that is gay and growing up from about the age of 4 i knew i liked power rangers and he liked my little pink pony..He also had barbies and i would see him have ken kiss barbie never ken and ken or barbie and barbie..I am curous about this .. so any lesbians,gays,bi-sexuals out there want to fill me in on what age you felt the desire to kiss (even if you didn’t act on it) the same sex
